Garlic is sprouting on Mount Sentinel Farm...
…both in the field and in the Market! We do our best to store our crop in a cool, dry location, but at this time of year, some of the bulbs still sense that now is the time! It is one of those wonders of creation! Who told them it was spring? We try to fool them, but to no avail… it is as if they have some kind of intuition deep down, or maybe they hear the call of their brothers and sisters outside saying “it’s time to grow! Spring has come!”
So, anyway, this means, that as they begin to sprout both outside and inside, we get going to process the rest of last season’s crop to make our wonderful Garlic Powder! We will be dehydrating, grinding, putting in shakers and even creating blends adding our own dried red onion and cayenne pepper to make a unique product. You should try that sometime!
This also means… there are still some bulbs that haven’t sprouted (and even what has just started sprouting is still very usable and delicious) but won’t last long.
So this is the “last call” for garlic! By the end of this month, we won’t have much (if any) left on the shelf… but the garlic out behind the market is well on its way!
